Jill and Ted go down under

The great adventure continues with a trip to Australia for the next month. The main purpose is to go to an ISA Asia PAcific conference in Brisbane but it will be sandwiched between a road trip between Melbourn and Brisbane and after the conference a visit to the big trees of Tasmania. Watch this space in case videos of the trees they meet along the way can be beamed back and uploaded here.

What does lungwort tell us about a wood?

Jill and Ted find lungwort – a lichen, on a tree in a French wood near St Dizier in eastern France. This lichen is used as an indicator of important old growth woodland in the UK but this French wood is very clearly a  working wood. Lichenologists will have to tell us what it means in terms of biodiversity.
